Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff and leader of the Catholic Church since 2013, passed away on Easter Monday, 21^st April 2025, at the age of 88. His death occurred at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta at 7:35 a.m. local time.

The Vatican announced his passing with a heartfelt statement, highlighting his dedication to serving the Lord and advocating for the marginalised. Pope Francis had faced several health challenges in recent years, including respiratory issues and pneumonia. His final days were marked by public appearances in Rome during Easter celebrations. As a faithful servant of Jesus, he courageously spoke out - for people who were poor, against climate change, about inclusiveness and for the need for world peace. His life and words challenge us all. He offered us this year of 2025 to be a Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of HOPE. May we continue to walk this pilgrim journey reaching out to those most in need today. Pope Francis had a meaningful connection with the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. He praised our vocation, emphasising our role as "mothers and sisters" to those in need. He encouraged us to embody love and care, supporting individuals in rediscovering dignity and the beauty of life. Pope Francis also acknowledged our historic role in addressing violence, discrimination, and the challenges faced by vulnerable groups.
